Vascular (Spider Veins) Treatment

Vascular (Spider Veins) Treatment

Laser Vein Surgery is performed with BBL or broadband light which penetrates the skin to reach unwanted spider veins.  The light energy is absorbed by the hemoglobin within red blood cells, resulting in heating of the unwanted blood vessels, causing them to be destroyed.  Your body will then absorb the remnants of these destroyed vessels.   Blood vessels within the skin differ in depth, size and in the rate at which blood flows through them.   By selecting the correct wavelength and fluence, the vascular lesion will be heated to a temperature of approximately 70 degrees Celsius, causing the blood vessel walls to break down and shrink.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does the procedure take?

Treatment time is dependent on the number and size of vascular areas treated.  The procedure is not painful, but is slightly uncomfortable.  For best results, a series of three to six treatments are recommended at 4 to 6 week intervals followed by a maintenance program every 4 to 6 months.  Vascular lesions will typically darken shortly after the treatment, should no longer blanch.  Your body will then resorb the lesions during the next two weeks.  There is no social down time following treatment.
