Treatment for Rheumatoid Arthritis

Treatment for Rheumatoid Arthritis

Rheumatoid Arthritis is a disabling autoimmune disease where the body’s immune system attacks the tissue that supports its own joint function called synovium.  This synovium becomes inflamed and in turn destroys the joints it is meant to support.   The destruction of the involved joints and the ligaments surrounding joints result in progressive disability and pain and deformity.

There are many non-invasive, as well as surgical procedures, available to your plastic surgeon that are designed to help restore function to your hands.  It is important that your disease be managed concurrently by a rheumatologist to help optimize the results of the interventions.
