Surgery for Dupuytren’s Contracture
Dupuytren's Contracture results from thick bands of scar tissue on the palm of the hand that result in flexion of the fingers and loss of range of motion. These bands may be transected or removed to restore function. However, removal of the bands has been shown to decrease recurrence. The results depend on the extent of the disease and the degree of flexion prior to presentation. Risks include injury to nerves, wound breakdown, loss of blood flow and recurrence of disease. Recurrence rates vary among individuals depending on their genetic predisposition.

If you have a cord or a band on the palm of your hand or fingers that prevents you from straghtening your hand or finger, this surgery may be right for you. It usually involves the small and ring fingers but has been found in other fingers as well.
